Black treacle 2 tsp
Vegetable stock 500ml

Instructions

  1. Put the pearl barley and lentils in a pot of boiling water.
  2. Add the onion to a pan with some butter until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. When the onions are ready add the carrot and mushrooms to the pan.
  4. Leave the vegetables to fry on a low heat while you prepare the vegetable stock. Dissolve the Marmite into the vegetable stock and add to the pan when ready.
  5. Drain the lentils and barley and add to the pan at the same time as the stock.
  6. Let this simmer until most of the moisture is gone (15–20mins), then add the treacle and oats. Mix well, and season to taste.
  7. Smear some butter on a sheet of foil and pour the haggis mixture onto it. Then roll the foil into a large sausage shape.
  8. Bake the haggis for 20–30 minutes.
